In my quest for a religion in which I feel most comfortable partaking in, I have yet to find one which "allows" all of my beliefs.... and this is probably because I just haven't really investigated everything enough!!
I have a strong set of beliefs that I just don't think meshes very well with certain religions. I am totally Pro-choice and pro-women all around.... I am in full support of homosexuality and same sex marriage/families. I don't like the whole "you HAVE to wait until marriage to have sex".... I believe it should be a personal decision based on having to think for yourself. I also HATE the self righteous type attitude that I have seen many "religious" people with.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which religion my beliefs would best fit in??
Thanks....
Frankie

Didn't you take the
Belief-O-Matic quiz ?
For anyone else interested:
QUOTE
Even if YOU don't know what faith you are, Belief-O-Matic knows. Answer 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more, and Belief-O-Matic will tell you what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing.

Frankie: I don't know much about wicca either, heh
It was just what first came to mind when I read Sista her post
And according to the Belief-O-Matic I should be following the path of Mahayana Buddhism.

most of the time, in most religions, people have a spectrum of beliefs and may believe differently than their religious group teaches or says they generally believe.
for example, at our quaker meeting, people bring in their ideas from a number of traditions, and we discuss our thoughts on things such as "sex before marriage" and the like. For me, sex before marriage is OK, so long as it is conscious. Most people are quite hurtful and abuse sex and themselves through it, which is why (or one of the reasons why) the rule exists. So, you know the rule, you follow it, and when it no longer applies in principle, you work away from it. Anywy, we discuss these sorts of things frequently, though not expressly.
Another thing to do is just study what's out there. What is your goal? what are you looking for in a religion? what sorts of things can you "live with" and what sorts of things can you definately not live with? For example, ryan refused to become catholic, though he enjoys a great deal of the church's teachings and practices, because of their view of homosexuals. So, we kept looking around until we could find something that we were both happy practicing. One important factor to us was that we could worship/practice together.

I was actually raised without a religion.. my parents and grandparents beleive in god the way christians would I gues.. but they got turned off to the church thing when the Vietnam war was going on (we're a VERY military family.. we can trace military roots back to my grandfather's dad's dad.) The church pretty much bashed military (dumb thing to do when you're in a military housing neighborhood!) anyway.. I've been to church like three times in my life. I kind of think I was lucky in a way, beause my parents let me pick what I want to believe. I don't have a religion.. don't want one. I borrowed from a lot of different religions..and from my own mind (which could explain why some of my beliefs are twisted!)
My main thing, is I wish all religions could get along and let everyone live in peace.

I think it's VERY healthy to be able to live your life and have a view that suits you, and not have to worry about fitting into someone elses image.

Favorite Hymn- "Gifts of Finest Wheat"
Favorite Catholic Celebrity- Mel Gibson
Favorite Priest- Bishop Charles J. Chaput (I don't even know who this guy is)
Favorite Apparition of Mary- Our Lady of Medugorje
Favorite Catholic Movie- The Sixth Sense (huh?)

Of course, IME there are two kinds of Wiccan philosophies; the "fluffy-bunny," urban, crystal-wearing New Age fluffs, and the ones like me, who see it as less a religion than a philosophy and ethical code, and who revere nature not from a distance, but as an active participant.

tried the test but it assumes that beleif is universal and that morals are real and not a perspective problem!!! they put no belief and not sure not important as the same thing!!!!
i was raised not to believe, to use emperical evidence, that morals good and bad evil et cetera are just human perspectives, and that the only difference between belief in god and santa is the acceptance based on your age.
the closed i have come to spiritual exploration is tring to build a deadfall with some small logs in front of the fireplace on december 24th, at age six.
