Here's a law you don't want to break.

Who knew?

Mario Duane Porter was pulled over by the Gainesville police for operating a loud car stereo -- it was so loud that you could hear it more than 25 feet beyond the vehicle.

The cop wrote in his report that Porter was belligerent and yelling profanities, reports the Gainesville Sun. Soon a police dog was brought to the scene.

Porter "began stating loud commands to 'sit' and 'sitz,' which interrupted the K9 from his duties. The K9 stopped twice while walking the vehicle and looking in the direction of (Porter) who was giving those commands, " according to the police report.

But the dog kept on task and found a small plastic bag containing marijuana residue under the front passenger seat.

Now Porter will be the one sitting -- in his cell.

Comments:

The residents of Gainesville can all breathe a sigh of relief that this menace who listens to loud music, smokes the wicked weed, and tells police dogs to sit is safely behind bars. More taxpayer money well spent.

G'ville has now got to be the safest city in the United States. We can all thank Chief of Police Barney Fife. Jeez, just tell the guy to turn it down. We wouldn't want to be stoppin' all those drunken Gators, would we?

pretty pathetic that a police dog would acknowledge commands from someone other than his handler. I have read that policemen are bitten by the dogs more than perps. Not sure how I would react if a police dog attacked me when I had done nothing.... I would probably shoot it and take my chances in court.

I think shooting a police dog is almost as bad a crime as shooting his partner. You'd have no chance in court to take.

He didn't acknowledge the command. He gave the dirtbag a couple of threatening looks.

well if a cop started beating hell outta me for no reason I'd shoot him also Grace. Keep in mind I am not talking about me being in the wrong, I mean a police K9 doing what they sometimes do and biting the wrong guy. I would definitely try to kill it somehow.

he should ignore any command other than one given by his handler.. I would wager from what was written had the guy known the language used to train the dog ( usually german I THINK) the dog would have complied. The guy shoulda yelled PLOTZ!!! or Platz, not sure of the spelling.

He did ignore the command. He never obeyed it, he looked at where the noise was coming from to assess whether it was a threat perhaps. If the guy was kicking the car the dog would have the same reaction. The guy also could have been yelling SHIT SHIT!!

Seems he did not ignore them grace... and if it had zero affect on the dog, how was he charged with interfering?

Did the dog sit, Steve, or just look in the direction of the noise? He was charged with interferring cause the cop was pissed off and added an embellishment to the charge. You of all people should have realized that.

Having had family with several LEO's in it the dogs are more often than not used in a way in which they are not supposed to.

Ever wonder why the "highly trained" K9 has to be on a short leash as they walk it around your car? I mean shit, they are supposed to be so highly trained but my coon dog can be told what to do without having the need for a leash. It is simple. If they sincerely think that you have drug but the dog does not strike positive they walk around a second time and give just an ever so slight tug on the short tight leash and the dog strikes positive.

There is no reason why the dog cannot walk around the car without having to be basically pulled by a short leash.

It is a good harassment tool. If they get the dog to hit positive they can then go through your car and look for other shit. Kinda like seat belt laws. They only exist to give them a right to pull you over so they can check for other shit. The average no seat belt ticket in most states is under 25 dollars.

It sounds like the dog was confused and thats why he stopped and looked at the guy. I had a cop tell me once that if was to hand me the leash of his dog and asked him to attack him the dog would do so. From what he told me they are suppose to listen to whomever has ahold of the leash and no one else no matter what. I have no idea if all police dogs act that way but it is the way his is trained. When you talk about cops having the dogs on a short leash I think they are trained to respond to that leash and the person with the leash and nothing else...
