I hope someone ties this fucker up and shoots him dead. What a fucking bastard. I hope he drives off a bridge and drowns. Slowly.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An Ohio firefighter sentenced to 90 days in jail for killing his dogs has now lost his fire department job.
Columbus Public Safety Director Mitchell Brown said Thursday that he has decided to terminate 43-year-old David Santuomo on the recommendation of the fire chief.
The firefighter pleaded guilty last month to three misdemeanors, including two animal cruelty counts. Prosecutors say Santuomo tied his two mixed-breed dogs to a pipe in his basement and shot them in December so he wouldn't have to put them up in a kennel while he went on vacation.
A spokesman had said the fire department received thousands of messages demanding that Santuomo be fired.
A message was left for Santuomo's attorney asking if his client would appeal the firing.

No, I don't see anymore evidence of animal cruelty than in the scenario of somebody pulling the heads off shrimp and chickens. I've shot lots of dogs.
Here's a story about shooting a dog.
I recall, years ago, when my great-Uncle called me to ask if I would "take care" of his aged hunting dog which was in pain from a combination of some terrible malady and her sheer years. My uncle was old and tired himself...perhaps in his younger days he would have taken his old setter out for one last walk in the woods himself....
There was a tear in the eye of that once hard, old man as I loaded the dog in my car. That dog which had come to him an enthusiastic puppy that he had not so much trained as simply refined her instincts. That dog with which he had spent so much time afield.
They were together as she transitioned from a joyous pup apt to blunder right over the top of a covey into a tireless and terrible pursuer of gambird scent, gliding through the briars like destiny come a-calling.
She was with him when he doubled on quail, dropping two birds from a covey with two perfect shots. She retrieved those birds and they shared the pride of a partnership that worked like the greased steel of his Browning Superposed.
She was with him when those little feathery explosions escaped his fusilade...despite her perfect locked on point...but there was no rebuke from her. She likely missed a bird or two herself now and then, though there was no way for him to know that from the perception of his imperfect human senses.
They shared the ride to the field, they shared the sport, they shared sandwiches at mid-day break, they shared the growing chill of a late autumn sunset signaling another day afield passing and they shared the primal satisfaction of arriving home late of an evening with fresh game for the table.
They shared later, slower days when actually shooting quail seemed secondary to just being out hunting quail and their homecomings came earlier and earlier.
They shared even later days when remembering hunting and talking of hunting around a warm fire with friends was enough.
He found it impossible to share her final day... and so he wept.
A few weeks later, he came by and asked to see Babe's final resting place. I showed him where she lay in a long hedgerow and he approved. On our walk back to the house a covey of quail flushed ahead of us, bursting like shrapnel from the briars. We paused and watched the birds scatter. I reflected that a covey fragments into its individual members and thus the covey is preserved. I had some sort of political thought about that and turned to my uncle to express it but checked myself short.
He was looking off across the field at something beyond my sight. Somewhere...way off in the distance and way off in the past...there was a trim little setter working the singles from that covey and locking up on a point as tight as the action of the Superposed carried by a younger man....

That story shouldn't even be in the same thread (I read that story before and it's good). These dogs weren't sick or dying. It appears he didn't want to spend the $$ on a kennel while he was vacationing. I hope he had a shitty vacation by the way. Too bad he didn't die on it.

Here's a little more detail. The fucker.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 8) - An Ohio firefighter faces jail time and may lose his job for shooting his two dogs to death rather than pay to board them while he went on a cruise. Columbus firefighter David P. Santuomo, 43, took Sloopy and Skeeter to his home's basement, suspended them from a pipe near the ceiling and fired at least 11 shots from a .22-caliber rifle fitted with a homemade silencer, Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Ron J. O'Brien said.
Santuomo then wrapped the carcasses in plastic and dumped them in a trash bin behind Firehouse 27, where he worked, O'Brien said.
"This is pretty heinous," said Cheri Miller, spokeswoman for the Capital Area Humane Society, which carried out a search warrant in Santuomo's home. The humane society has limited law enforcement powers in Franklin County.
Santuomo pleaded guilty in June to two misdemeanor counts of improperly killing a companion animal and a felony count of possession of a criminal tool. Santuomo had fashioned a makeshift silencer by taping a 2-liter soda bottle to the end of the rifle. The incident happened in December.
Miller said appalled fellow firefighters turned Santuomo in to authorities. "There were reports that he was bragging about this," she said.
Santuomo initially told investigators the dogs had ingested antifreeze and he killed them to put them out of their misery, Miller said. However, after necropsies showed the dogs were not poisoned, the firefighter admitted shooting them because he couldn't afford to board them, she said. Public records show Santuomo has twice filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and underwent a home foreclosure in 2003. The Columbus Division of Fire has received more than 2,000 outraged e-mails and calls from the public, said Battalion Chief David Whiting, the department's spokesman.

Dogs are killed all the time because it is too expensive to keep them. Do you wish all the animal shelter personel in the world should have shitty vacations and die too? I mean...geez Grace.

That this bitch has leave to interject herself in business that is none of her business is a sad reflection on American culture and politics today.

I'm with you on this one RF.. Since when does the humane society get search warrants. They are not police officers...dumb fuckin bitch. Guy popped two dogs ...BIG DEAL. If his lawyer has a hair on his ass he will call for indictments against EVERY vet and EVERY shelter worker who has killed a dog. Guy was a dumb ass for taking them to the dumpster but nothing he did should be illegal.... I have on more than one occasion went to the woods with dogs and came home with collars.

Hanging 2 dogs from a pipe in your basement and pumping more than 11 bullets into them before you go on a cruise. Nice you guys advocate this type of behavior.

to be 100% honest I did not see that part grace......I do not " condone" or "advocate" that type of behavior. I do however still say whats the big deal, and since when do humane society fucks get search warrants? . EXCEPT for being an idiot for shooting a firearm in his basement, he did noting I think should be illegal..
I've shot firearms in my basement.
I wonder how they know the dogs were hung from the pipes?
BTW, I don't advocate that behavior either. But there's a lot of behavior I don't advocate that I nevertheless think is nobody else's business.

Yeah, one interesting item. He couldn't afford to board them but he could afford a cruise. God almighty why couldn't he have fallen overboard and get sucked into the prop?

Of course not grace, the guy was a total asswipe BUT what he did should in no way be ILLEGAl based on the FACT that his actions had zero effect on anyone, and his actions has ZERO impact on society. So therefore as RF said it was no one else's business. I have killed a LOT of dogs for various reasons...from being vicious mean to just worthless for my purposes. To do it in a torturous way is just plain stupid. I have never ever had one not just drop dead.

I totally agree. Calling her a bitch is being nice. These nazi types have no business entering someone's home like that.
The way the man killed the dogs is pretty out there. Idiot.
