Works for me, Frankie. I think that's probably the most 'real world' approuch to the problem I've viewed in a while.

I'd love to see Gilligan's(Watson) reaction if they found a way to make this work with whales or seals.

Why not try it? Whats being done now is a proven failure.

Another North American animal that proves that theory is the alligator . Once they had their numbers depleted to endangered numbers they rebounded because farmers began to take an interest in protecting them & selling the farm,ed animals. That factor increased their worth. Thus it became lucrative to see alligators rebound because of that economic value.

i also believe that when they were allowed to be farmed the farmers had to turn so many loose back into the wild .
Frankie
i don't know of any regulated hunting that has not increased the number of animals intended to be hunted .

That plan worked marvelously well Frankie. Now folks are up to their asses in alligators which proves the point that the best way to prevenmt extinction is to stave it off by making it economically worth while to harvest the animals as crops and not as nuisances. .

Owning, breeding and selling chimps as "pets". is what led to several attacks.

"Pet" tigers have attacked and killed their owners. Tigers are currently being used for their fur and their bones.

OTOH, the only thing that makes any animal valuable to humans is if they can kill, use, eat it.

That's a big ausumption on your part that people raise such animals only for pets. Can you name any african game reserves that practice 'incentive based conservation', that allows anyone to legally sell such animals for pets?

Like it or not, regulated hunting remains the best method to save endangered species.

Poor Barb is so warped she could never admit that economic value enhances any animal species survival rates. If she were able to be honest she would admit that having tigers become more valuable economically, is an opportunity to see their numbers thrive . Worked for Bison, Elephants, Rhinos, Alligators and other critters and the majority of those animals aren't all living in ten by ten enclosures but as WILD ANIMALS on large tracts of land..

Barb , where the hell do you get ,,,, let's make them pets from the words save tigers,,,,, kill them . no where has any thing been stated about making them pets .
