In the tree stand this morning at 5:55. At 6:20 I catch movement off to my right..a BIG deer going back and forth in the cut corn field. Obviously a buck by his actions but too dark for me to make out any head gear. I wait as it is about 15-20 minutes too early to make a decent shot due to light. ...he turns to go away and I hit my grunt. He stops and turns back. I stand up and click my release onto the string as it is getting CLOSE to light enough for me to take the shot if he is a shooter.......he turns and starts away again...I again stop him with the grunt....Still too dark...he turns and trots away never to be seen again....5 minutes later it is light enough to see. I paced it off when I left and he was almost EXACTLY 20 yards.. I can make that shot EVERY time.....by 10:00 I was so cold I had to come in for a break and some more coffee.

What are you gonna do when it really gets cold?

Just kidding....a deer stand is the coldest place in the world for some reason.

you're gonna REALLY like this then grace.......went back at around 2-2:30...was getting in the stand and setting all the gear up and getting my release strapped on etc.. I hear WHISH....WHOOOOOOOSH ( DONT LAUGH ONLY WAY i CAN COME UP WITH TO SPELL IT) TWO BIG DOES BUSTED ME..HAD i GOTTEN THERE 2 MINUTES SOONER THEY WOULDA WALKED RIGHT UNDER MY STAND. they saw me moving as they came over the hill towards the path.

LOL. Yeah but I know it's just a matter of time and timing. Still in the meantime it's fun to see the deer score.

yeah two times today I missed deer by a matter of minutes....

Then you'd LOVE turkey hunting.

Except when I hunt turkeys. I'm 100%. And I racked up that impressive score with nothing but a....well you know.

I don't seem to be getting much respect around here. XXMag says I shoot like a sissy. Grace makes jokes like I wear nail polish. And now Steve makes jokes implying that I'm not man enough to kill a turkey using nothing but a stick.

While I have zero doubt that you killed a turkey with a stick... I'd like to see you grab your favorite stick, head afield with the intent of killing a turkey with it, and keep me informed of your progress...

Sadly, I don't have that stick anymore. Besides, I already proved my ability. It would be kind of arrogant to just keep doing it and doing it.

Awww....your jealousy is showing through XX. Don't let my supreme skill and impressive (and perfect) kill ratio make you morose. Get out there and keep banging away at them. Someday one might fly right into the path of your shot. And even though it will be pure happenstance and a case of "right place at the right time", you'll be able to brag it up like you're to turkeys what Col Sanders was to chickens.

But you won't have 100% of course.

That involves knowing when to quit.
