My first rabbit show of the year is this weekend, so I'll be heading out for Montana later this morning. icon_clap.gif I'm traveling with a friend, and we should have 30 to 35 rabbits in the van for this trip. Good thing I have the "Hutterite" van! icon_lol.gif

I'll be back Sunday afternoon, so I'll let ya'll know how I do! See ya later!

Good luck ST!!!

Safe travels down the bunny trail! Say hi to Ock.

Thank you, Grace & Origam.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and the drive through the mountains is beautiful. We saw an awful lot of deer on our way down, though. At least 300. Thankfully, we didn't hit any wildlife. We also saw migrating swans and snow geese. Quite lovely.

Unfortunately, I had a slight incident with a concrete step at the motel and sprained my ankle pretty badly. icon_sad.gif I got a lot of help from other people at the show, though, who made sure that my rabbits got to the judging table when they should. Good thing, too, because my buck won 2 Best of Breed awards, so he has his first 2 Grand Champion legs. He also received an Honorable Mention during Best in Show with one judge and the other judge awarded him Reserve in Show - my first rabbit trophy! One of my does also won her first GC leg for a Best Opposite of Variety - despite biting the judge twice. icon_ohmygod.gif

My daughter's Polish did fairly well, too, against the largest breed class they've been shown against. One of her does received a Best Opposite Sex award and one of her bucks may have a Grand Champion leg for a Best of Variety win. After the show, 5 of us went for dinner (2 of the judges, another exhibitor, my friend and I) and we had a blast. We went to a restaurant called Sizzler, arrived at 6:30 and didn't leave until they were closing. We took the hint to leave when they had the chairs on all the tables surrounding ours. giggle.gif

On the drive home, we saw a large group of wild turkeys at the side of the road, with gave us quite a chuckle as we'd just passed a bunch of trucks at the side of the road that we think belonged to turkey hunters. We saw one man with a pair of black & tan hounds on leash coming out of the trees. It seems all the turkeys were along the road, while the hunters were in the forest.

The best part of the trip was arriving home. I bought my daughter a blue Polish buck as a surprise gift (she's been wanting blue Polish for 2 years), and she was so thrilled. I got lots of hugs from my family, and even our new dog, Missy, was jumping around when I walked in the door. Apparently Missy moped all weekend.

That sounds like a weekend.
Congrats.

At first I thought OH NO (your ankle) but later realized you sure didn't let that minor inconvenience get in the way of what sounded like a very memorable, worthwhile and fun weekend. LOL on the turkey hunters too. Congrats on getting the awards, including your first. Picture of your daughter's blue are coming up soon we hope.

Thanks, Grace. I'm at work at the moment, but I hope to have pictures of the new bunny tomorrow or so. He's a really pretty boy, and when I carried him over to my daughter, he literally leapt into her arms. It was meant to be. icon_mrgreen.gif

Congrats. But not to change the subject, I've turkey hunted -- fall and spring, with and without dogs -- for about 20 years and leading a pair of black and tans throught the woods doesn't sound like and spring gobbler (or fall turkey) hunt that I've ever been on.... Does ring a bell when you're talking bear or racoon though (especially the part about the line of trucks). It being april and all even that is a bit perplexing, I'm not sure whats in season (or even chase season) there.

But anyway, congrats again.

Granted, I know diddly about hunting, but the guy was bringing the dogs back to his truck. Maybe he'd just taken them out to the woods for a run. I just thought it was funny that the people were in the woods and the turkeys were along the road.

That is indeed funny. And who's to say, maybe they were turkey hunting. A rather unorthodox methodology though icon_wink.gif

Finally, I managed to get pictures of my daughter's new rabbit. Here he is.

Grace
Oh he's beautiful. Now I know why they call him a blue. Looks a bit like Kasha's fur.
